Could he have done it without adding the slur? Of course, but that's not why we are here. He is completely UNBOTHERED by them trying to insult him by saying that he likes transwomen. The "so what" is what took us out. People can't clown you with the truth when you own your life.
If only more men had this mindsight, we wouldn't have to post an article every other day about one of our trans-sisters being assaulted or murdered.
