Via EquallyWed: Jamal Barker (26 and a registered nurse), and Christopher Bell (27 and an education specialist) met through a common friend, exchanged numbers and talked for hours that night, forming an immediate connection. They quickly became a couple, and Jamal later proposed with a Movado watch rather than a ring, telling Christopher “Love is timeless.”
While planning their wedding, the pair knew two things for sure: They wanted to do as much as possible on their own, and they wanted to support local businesses. Luckily, the couple found exactly what they were looking for at Noah’s Event Venue in Little Rock, Arkansas—a space that boasts hardwood floors, AV equipment, custom lighting technology and the option to bring in their own local vendors. Navy, silver and gold details filled the space, along with silk flower arrangements and DIY mason jar centerpieces. Indulgent menu items included mashed potatoes, stuffed chicken, a decadent chocolate cake and treats from a popcorn bar courtesy of The Popcorn Spot in Little Rock.
“We wanted our wedding to have lots of booze, good food and creative flair,” Jamal says. Mission accomplished. —Chrissy Sorenson
